I’m Hennie, a 31-year old German living in the best city in the world. Melbourne that is of course! I’m sharing my life and our tiny kitchen with my amazing husband, who loves cooking almost more than I do.
From a young age on my mother, grandmother and great-grandmother taught my siblings and myself how to cook. When going on holidays we would take turns in making dinner for the family and would slowly build up a repertoire of simple dishes. I cook these dishes still today (with my favourite being Eggs with Mustard Sauce) and they evoke the happiest childhood memories!
I’ve lived in Australia on and off over the last 10 years and love the country’s abundance of seafood, meats and fresh produce. It’s so easy to get inspired by all the fabulous restaurants and markets around. I always have a long list of recipes that I want to try – but unfortunately never enough time!
In 2015 I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and came across Sarah Wilson’s I Quit Sugar program. The program has helped me immensely to feel more energised and healthy. I now try to cut processed sugars out where I can or to at last keep them to a minimum. Around the same time as I was diagnosed I also started running. I’ve always loved running but struggled with injuries or over training. My goal was a half-marathon before turning 30. I did it, loved it and have run three more since!
I want to use this blog to inspire myself to try out new things. New ingredients, new recipes, new techniques and also new restaurants and cafes!
