On our recent trip to Healesville (I’ve previously talked about it here) we used the lovely weather on Sunday to also hit some wineries in the Yarra Valley.
We arrived mid-afternoon, just on time to grab some of the last sausages from the sausage sizzle before starting our tasting.
I might have mentioned before I’m a bit of a sausage snob coming from Germany, but these ones were really tasty with just enough herbs and spices in there. Served in a piece of crusty baguette and with mustard and tomato chutney to accompany it.
On Sundays in the summer a live band is plays on the deck at Sticks. We sat down, enjoyed the music and ordered an antipasti and a cheese platter.
I absolutely loved the green olives that came with both platters. They tasted super fresh and slightly tart and fruity. Another group favourite was the beetroot and mint dip which was gone pretty quickly. The mint added another depth to the dip which was like a little fresh kick. I’m not a big fan of blue cheese (unless it’s in a sauce) but have a very big thing for the Meredith Goat’s Cheese which has a good punch of garlic from the oil it sits in.
We are definitely planning on going back soon for another relaxed Sunday afternoon session at Sticks, great wine and food to go with it.
If you’re in the Yarra Valley, you should definitely add this one to your list of wineries to visit.
